La Porziuncola Nuova

La Porziuncola Nuova is a an exact reproduction of the original Porziuncola chapel located outside of Assisi, Italy, famously known as the small chapel that become the home of St. Francis of Assisi and is considered the place where the Franciscan movement was started.  The reproduction project, lead by Angela Alioto with support from the Catholic Archdiocese of San Francisco and the blessing of the Assisi’s Provincial Minister Massimo Reschiglan, was built adjacent to the St. Francis of Assisi Church in San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood.   The old gym of the church was gutted out and renovated in order to house the chapel replica.  BMC performed the re-routing of the existing plumbing lines that ran through the gym of the old church so that room could be made for the reproduction.  The re-routed plumbing lines connected with many of the plumbing systems of the surrounding area, requiring BMC to create temporary waterlines to keep surrounding businesses and homes connected to the city utility lines.
